The Author
Dr. Paul L. Freeman, Jr. was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He received his BS degree from the University of North Florida and his MBA and Doctorate of Business Administration from NOVA Southeastern University. Currently, he is employed full-time with JEA as a Senior Technology Project Manager and part-time with the University of Phoenix as an Online Instructor. He is an active member of Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church where he serves in the capacity of Superintendent of Sunday School and a Deacon. Because of his passion for teaching, he is called upon by churches to conduct workshops and lectures on various Christian topics.
He is married and the father of three beautiful daughters (Ariana, Ashlyn and Aniyah). Thirteen years ago when the kids were 1, 3 and 5; it appeared that his marriage and family were headed towards a promising future. As such, he was not prepared for the curve ball that life would throw him. To his surprise, an un-welcomed and unwanted debilitating disease that would change his life forever had now become a new member of his family and marriage. The disease came unexpected and with a birth certificate that read “My Name is Multiple Sclerosis (MS).” Vivian, his wife, was diagnosed with MS, which has caused Paul to be confronted with a challenging situation as a husband and father.

The Book Overview
“Can I have hope in what appears to be a hopeless situation?” is the question confronting a vast number of Christians today. As Christians, we know all of the right words to say when an unexpected storm enters our life, but living what we profess becomes a challenge when it appears that God is not hearing our prayers. I have learned that it is easy to trust God when life is going well. However, can we trust Him when we find ourselves in the midst of a storm and Jesus appears to be sleeping? This is the situation that most Christians will encounter at least once in their life. Painful, uncertain and unpredictable situations will enable us to experience an attribute or characteristic of God that we have never experienced. Therefore, my book, Ambushed: An Uplifting Memoir by a Determined Man is written to help readers realize that they should never lose hope. Beginning with the definition of two simple words; cope and unexpected, this book tells a true story of the mental and emotional impact that came along with dealing with an unexpected disease that took residence in my wife’s life and became a new member of our family. The journey is presented as a continuing education program at Life on Earth University (LOEU) where each chapter is a required course at LOEU. As such, each chapter opens with a course syllabus which outlines the purpose and intent of the course. This journey of dealing with the unexpected has been both a revelatory and transformational spiritual experience.
